Audiomagical

My production team and I submitted the audiobook version of False Assurances — Ben Porter Series Book One — to Audible just about two weeks ago, expecting about a month for approval. To our collective shock, the audiobook was approved for distribution over this past weekend. Maybe that’s because it is (and yes, I’m biased) an awesome audiobook, and that Audible couldn’t wait to get it to their listeners!

When I conducted an audition to narrate False Assurances, the response was staggering: 157 voice actors offered their talents. Each actor read from a three-part script of excerpts from the book, and during a roughly seven-minute audition reel, I could get a sense of how they would voice each character, the third-person narrator, and of course Ben himself. The talent was astounding, and it was a very difficult task to narrow down the field. In the end, however, I kept returning to one actor: Christopher Boucher, who had nailed Ben’s charisma.

One of Chris’s audition segments included a portion wherein his recording partner, Jessica Threet, had spoken one of the female roles. That hooked me on the idea of multiple voices. Of course, once that door was cracked open, I wanted to have a unique voice for every character; unfortunately, the reality of producing over ten hours of audiobook made that option unreachable for an indie author!

However, with Chris and Jessica’s careful and measured guidance, the cast expanded… and expanded again. We tested various voices against the major characters in the story: Volkov, Macallister, Appleton, Omar, and Petrikov, among others, until we had the right mix.

In my opinion, that mix is perfect, and I am proud to present an ensemble recording of False Assurances: atypical of many of the mainstream publishers, and perhaps unique among independent authors like me. The seven-actor False Assurances cast is:

Christopher Boucher, Jessica Threet, Robert Bradvica, Alyssa Poon, Daniel Wisniewski, Alexa Roosevelt, Cheick Sy-Savane

I am grateful to each of these voices, as I remain grateful to you for your continued support of Ben’s adventures. This is the link to the page on my website where you can find the audiobook, which is available on Audible, Amazon, and Apple. Each source also includes a five-minute free sample, if you want to get a sense of how it sounds. It’s audio magic!

Happy listening!
